The Oklahoma Route 66 Trip Guide

Trip Guide cover

Route 66 in Oklahoma is also known as 69 ALT, 60 & 69, 77, 270, 281 spur, Business I-40, “frontage road”, State Highway 66 . . . well, you get the picture. Trying to follow Route 66 using a standard road map just won't work. And although there are a lot of the Historic Route 66 markers all along the Road, there never seem to be quite enough of them, thanks to misguided collectors, vandals, and the Oklahoma winds. As a result, the Oklahoma Route 66 Association has put together a Trip Guide, updated each June, for all the travelers who want to experience for themselves ALL of Oklahoma's 400 miles of America's most famous road—Route 66.

75th Anniversary Commemorative Envelope

For those of you who love nostalgia, collectibles and all things Americana, we have a great piece of Route 66 history that you can personally afford to own. It is a must-have collector's item for every roadie's Mother Road memorabilia collection.

75th Anniversary Commemorative

The Oklahoma Route 66 Association created and issued a Special Limited Edition Commemorative Cachet Envelope to honor the 75th Anniversary of the nation's most popular highway—Route 66. This one-time only edition is limited to the release of just 1000 Cachet Envelopes worldwide: a small edition indeed! The commemorative Cachet Envelope captures a series of historic times and places on Oklahoma Route 66, many of which are gone forever. These pieces of handcrafted artwork are very suitable for framing. Click here for detailed view

Each Cachet Envelope features two custom pieces of art. The first is imprinted on the linen envelope itself. An attractive montage of pen-and-ink-style vintage Oklahoma Route 66 landmarks shares space with a special slogan about Oklahoma, as well as the official logo of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association.

The second custom piece of art is the actual postmark—an official U.S. special commemorative pictorial postmark at that! The striking winged design is adapted from the official Oklahoma Route 66 Association 75th Anniversary logo, used only during the year 2001. This unique commemorative pictorial postmark was only available at the Clinton, Oklahoma post office. Clinton was, for many years, the home of the national U.S. Highway 66 Association, which promoted Route 66 tourism after World War II. Like all commemorative postmarks, the actual postmarking device was removed from service 30 days after the Sunday, November 11th issue date, then defaced. The postmaster then donated the postmark stamp to the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton. Needless to say, it will never be used again.

To complete the special cachet, the Association chose the stirring flag-themed “Honoring Veterans” U.S. postage stamp for each Cachet Envelope. This makes these Commemorative Route 66 Cachet Envelopes even more unique and rare.

The date of the postmark, appropriately enough, is Sunday, November 11, 2001—which has the twin distinctions of being the official 75th Anniversary “birthday” of Route 66 and Veteran's Day. In fact, it is rare that a postmark is even issued on a Sunday!

These Route 66 keepsakes come in four choices of color combinations:

  1. White linen envelope with a black ink postmark.
  2. Off-white linen envelope with a black ink postmark.

Internet Special Price is only $3.95 each, which includes shipping.

To place an order for these Special 75th Anniversary Limited Edition Route 66 Commemorative Cachet Envelopes, please be sure to specify your choice(s) of cachet color formats.
