The Oklahoma Route 66 Association has hundreds of members from across the country - and across the world. Be a part of our mission to preserve and promote Route 66 by becoming a member!

Membership

  • What kinds of membership options are available?

    • You can become a member of the Oklahoma Route 66 Association in a variety of ways: as an individual, as a business, as a Route 66 benefactor, and as a family. We even have a special kid’s membership.

  • How much does it cost to become a member?

    • The cost varies depending on the type of membership. Prices range from $10 to $49 per year. Benefactor memberships include donations above the typical membership price and lifetime memberships are also available.

  • What do I get for becoming a member?

    • All memberships help us continue our mission in the greater Route 66 community. You also get a copy of our quarterly newsletter, a window cling, and a vote at our general meetings. When an opportunity to help preserve the road arises, you get to be a part of the ongoing effort to keep Route 66 alive for future generations.

    • In addition to the above mentioned benefits, business members also get a listing in the quarterly newsletter, the annual Trip Guide, and on our website.

  • I’m a current member, and I would like to offer my services to the association’s operations (i.e. printing, merchandising, marketing, etc.). How do I do that?

    • We support our Route 66 family whenever possible. We prefer to keep our business on the road because it’s a reinvestment in Route 66. If you would like to be considered as a service provider, or if you would like to donate or offer your service at a discounted rate, please contact our Executive Director at info@oklahomaroute66.com.

Outreach & Services

  • We have a preservation need in our community. How do I get help?

    • The Oklahoma Route 66 Association can aid in preservation efforts in many ways: raising awareness, connecting communities with partners, organizations, and city and state officials, sharing knowledge of applicable grants, and more. We are not a grant funding agency, however, we stay abreast of all Route 66 and preservation funding opportunities on a local and national level. If you’d like help with a preservation project, email us at info@oklahomaroute66.com.

  • I'd love to have someone from the Oklahoma Route 66 Association talk to our group about the road. Is that possible?

    • It is! We love talking to clubs, schools, and tour groups. We are also available to speak at events and conferences. We can give a general presentation or talk about Route 66 history and we are also able, with advance notice, to give more customized talks. If you’d like to schedule a talk or presentation, email us at info@oklahomaroute66.com.

  • I have Route 66 memorabilia and/or artifacts that I’d like to donate to the Oklahoma Route 66 Association. How do I do that?

    • We not only work to preserve elements of the physical road itself, but artifacts, ephemera, and memorabilia that preserve history and knowledge about Route 66 in Oklahoma. If you have items that you’re interested in donating, please contact us at info@oklahomaroute66.com. If you have items about Route 66 in other states, we will connect you with one of our sister-state associations.

Association Staff, Board & Elections

  • Who serves on the board?

    • The Board of Directors includes elected officers and district representatives. The Executive Director does not serve on the Board. To see a list of current elected officers and district representatives, click here.

  • What responsibilities does the Executive Director have?

    • The Executive Director serves a vital role to the association: overseeing day-to-day operations (accounting, customer service, events, fulfillment, member services, coordination of annual Trip Guide) and fulfilling duties as detailed by the Board of Directors.

  • What responsibilities do board members have?

    • Board members attend quarterly meetings, stay abreast of all local Route 66 developments, distribute Oklahoma Trip Guides to business members, participate in preservation and clean up projects, promote the Oklahoma Route 66 Association, and increase our membership. In a nutshell, they serve as ambassadors of the Mother Road!

  • When are association board member elections?

    • Board member elections are held every year. Each board position has a term of two years. Positions up for election alternate annually, or more frequently if there are vacancies. All association members can vote. Elections generally take place at our annual meeting held in January.

  • How often does the board meet?

    • The Board meets once per quarter (a total of 4 times per year). Meetings are held throughout the state at business member locations when available.

  • Who is eligible to become a board member? Are there prerequisites?

    • All Board members must be dues-paying members of the association.

    • District representatives should live in the county that they represent. While this is not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged in order to effectively fulfill their duties and provide better support to association members.

  • I’m a business member and I’m interested in hosting one of the quarterly meetings at my location. How does this work?

    • In the fourth quarter, our Executive Director contacts all business members via email to seek locations for the next year’s meetings. We strive to meet in a different part of the state each quarter to allow for greater member participation and access.
