“If you want to see America, then you’ve gotta see Oklahoma.”

— Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell

To prepare for the 2026 Centennial of Route 66, Oklahoma created a statewide Centennial Commission. One of the first projects on the table was improving wayfinding across the state.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Association worked with the Lt. Governor’s office and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to identify locations that needed signs, both on the historic road itself and on the nearby interstates to help educate drivers that they were so close to the famous highway.

A new design was approved and over 400 signs were fabricated! Signs started popping up like wildflowers from Quapaw at the Kansas border to Texola on the Texas line.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Association is grateful to the Lt. Governor and ODOT for helping make this initiative a resounding success!
