Projects
The Oklahoma Route 66 Association takes pride in helping preserve Route 66 through various initiatives. Here are a few “brick and mortar” projects we’ve helped raise money and awareness for as well as used some good old-fashioned elbow grease to make better for future generations.
Meadow Gold Sign
One of the largest neon signs on the route was almost lost to history…
Ozark Trails Obelisk
This precursor to Route 66 needs continuous attention to keep clean - with more to come
2021 Historic Signage
The first project to prepare for the 2026 Centennial involved signs - LOTS of signs!
Bob Waldmire’s U-Haul
One of Route 66’s most famous artists created a mural on the side of a moving truck - which nearly went to the scrap yard
Allen’s Fillin’ Station
Repainting a popular photo op and landmark in Commerce, OK
Andy Payne Statue Rehab
Helping get a fresh wax and polish for Foyil’s Favorite Son in partnership with the Cherokee Nation
Roadside Attraction Signage
Replacing the early 2000s Hampton Inn signage, much of which had gone missing or were faded by the Oklahoma sun
Route 66 Neon Sign Grant
Helping businesses restore vintage neon or add new signage throughout the state.
