Route 66 Radio Documentary to Air on Public Radio Tulsa starting June 4
Across the Tracks: A Route 66 Story is coming to Public Radio Tulsa over the next few weeks, starting on Thursday, June 4th and continuing over the next two weeks.
Across the Tracks is a three-part radio documentary that examines the influence of Route 66 across time and culture. Dr. David Dunaway of New Mexico conducted a significant amount of oral history interviews for this project, which originally aired in 2001 and was heard across more than 200 radio stations across the country.
For Route 66’s 100th anniversary, this remarkable series has been made available to stations again in celebration of the road’s milestone. Hosted by the late Martin Milner, star of the Route 66 TV series from the 1960s, the series guides listeners through the road’s history and its influence on modern American culture. In addition to Milner, listeners get to hear the story of Route 66 through interviews from Route 66 historians, roadies, business owners, and many others.
Public Radio Tulsa will air episode one of this series twice: Thursday, June 4th, at noon and Friday, June 5th at 8:00 PM. Episodes two and three will air the following two weeks on the same days at the same times. Interested listeners not in the broadcast area can tune in online at https://www.publicradiotulsa.org/.
