Broken Arrow Church Creates Display Tribute to Cars Film
Ever since Pixar’s film Cars came out in 2006, it’s inspired many people to explore Historic Route 66 and learn about its history. For some, it has become a bonafide pop culture passion. For a church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, it is now the centerpiece of a summer message series, which has totally transformed the entry of their house of worship into Radiator Springs.
Corbin Francis, the Pastor at the Life.Church on the south side of Tulsa’s largest suburb, contacted the Oklahoma Route 66 Association to share their display and to encourage people to come see it for themselves.
“Each year we do a message series in July called At the Movies,” Pastor Francis said. “During the series we turn our entire lobby into a movie set. This year we did the movie Cars.”
As you can see, the church has gone all-out to recreate the world of Radiator Springs. “We tried to be very authentic to the movie and we would love to show it off to other Route 66 enthusiasts,” Pastor Francis said. From Sarge’s Quonset hut to Flo’s Cafe to the statue of Stanley outside of the fire station, the church lobby looks like it was lifted right from the silver screen. You can even take a selfie with Mater or Lightning McQueen!
Visitors can stop by Life.Church to see it for themselves at 5801 S Elm Pl in Broken Arrow during office hours (Monday through Thursday 9:00 to 5:00) and of course during service on Sundays. The display will be up until the end of July.
