Inaugural Route 66 Midpoint Corridor Road Rally Takes Off June 22
The Oklahoma Route 66 Midpoint Corridor has announced that their first ever Road Rally will be taking place on Saturday, June 22nd. The rally will feature selfie spots, merchandise, and fun activities.
The starting point for the rally will be The Chicken Shack (232 OK-66, Arcadia, Oklahoma) and cost is $25 per vehicle, which includes breakfast at 8:00 AM check-in. Vehicles will travel to eleven towns within the corridor and return to The Chicken Shack at 8:00 PM for a dance party, prizes, and giveaways. “Main Street America is Route 66,” said Jennifer Thornton, Tourism Director of Visit Edmond. “Events like this Road Rally make for an enjoyable day spend on this stretch of Route 66.”
The eleven towns that make up the Midpoint Corridor are: Edmond, Arcadia, Luther, Wellston, Chandler, Davenport, Stroud, Depew, Bristow, Kellyville and Sapulpa. The Corridor organization’s goal is to create the greatest 100 miles of Route 66 through unification, stewardship, beautification, and preservation in anticipation of the road’s next 100 years. “Our first initiative was 100 Miles of Christmas last year. It helped cities along [the] Midpoint Corridor welcome Route 66 travelers over the holiday. The Road Rally plans to expand on that desire to navigate historic Route 66 by adding the thrill of a road rally,” said Ed Gochenour, owner of The Chicken Shack and founder of Route 66 Midpoint Corridor.
As a bonus, Road Rally participants will get one FREE entry into AAA Route 66 Road Fest in Tulsa, which takes place June 22-23 at Tulsa’s Expo Square Pavilion. One ticket per vehicle; just show your registration at Road Fest.
