Ottawa County Arts Festival Issues Call for Muralists
The Ottawa County Arts Festival is gearing up for another event in 2025, this time centered in the town of Commerce, Oklahoma. Festival organizers recently sent out a call for muralists to be a part of the festivities. The event itself will be on Saturday, April 26th, 2025.
The collaborative mural festival started in Miami in 2017 as a partnership between Oklahoma artists and students at the NEO A&M College. Over the years, more than 50 murals have been painted. By expanding the event to greater Ottawa County, this brings transformative public art to other communities along the Route 66 corridor in northeast Oklahoma.
A statement from the festival organizers reads: “The Ottawa County Arts Festival has grown from a small mural event into a significant cultural celebration that enriches the community’s cultural landscape. It stands as a testament to the power of art in bringing people together, celebrating diversity, and fostering a sense of community pride and connection. Through its murals, the festival plays a crucial role in enhancing and beautifying the county, encouraging revitalization, and inspiring local engagement.”
In addition to the murals themselves, the event will also feature live music, vendors, food trucks, and a car show benefiting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program in Ottawa County.
