Route 66 Midpoint Corridor Announces Second Road Rally
Oklahoma’s Route 66 Midpoint Corridor has announced their second annual ROAD RALLY, set for Saturday, June 7th. The event covers the Mother Road from Sapulpa to Edmond - including the midpoint of Oklahoma’s stretch of the famous highway in Wellston.
Their press release encourages people to, “explore exciting destinations, meet new friends, and win amazing prizes. Find out why the Midpoint Corridor is known as the ‘100 Greatest Miles’ of Historic Route 66. Whether you’re a seasoned road warrior or a first-time participant, this event is the perfect summer day trip.” All vehicle types and ages are welcome to participate!
The Road Rally isn’t a race, but an event that encourages checking in to specific locations at your own pace. Participants may start anywhere along the route, stop at each checkpoint and check in via smartphone. It’s not timed as it’s designed to get folks out on the road to shop, eat, play, and learn. An official guide will go out via e-mail before the event.
Registration is $25 per vehicle and there will be a grand prize of $1,000 awarded, along with other prizes, at the official after-party at The Chicken Shack in Arcadia at 6:00 PM.
The Midpoint Corridor is a coalition of 11 Oklahoma communities dedicated to preserving and celebrating their stretch of Historic Route 66, including Edmond, Arcadia, Luther, Wellston, Chandler, Davenport, Stroud, Depew, Bristow, Kellyville, and Sapulpa. They have also been responsible for the 100 Miles of Christmas celebrations and several beautification projects along their corridor.
