Third Round of Oklahoma Route 66 Revitalization Grant Recipients Announced

In April, the third round of grant recipients were selected for Oklahoma’s Route 66 Revitalization Grant. With the Centennial fast approaching, more grants this round were awarded to marketing initiatives and preparations for the Centennial itself as the various capital improvement projects approved in earlier cycles get underway.

Below is a list of projects funded in this most recent round along with a brief description.   • Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission

    • $1,000,000 towards a national and international marketing initiative to promote the Route 66 Centennial

    • $406,000 towards providing 42 community Route 66 artistic landmark installations across the state

  • Town of Davenport, Oklahoma ($30,000)

    • Route 66 Centennial Monument sign

  • Keep Oklahoma Beautiful ($175,000)

    • Two-year Keep Route 66 Beautiful project to beautify the Route 66 corridor, especially in rural communities

  • Town of Canute, Oklahoma ($695,000)

    • Restoration of former Hi-De-Hi Diner into a community hub and visitor’s center; restoration of vintage Cotton Boll neon sign and other historic structures along Route 66 in town

  • Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park in Edmond, Oklahoma ($300,000)

    • Construction of the Eagle’s Nest, a 37-foot-tall centerpiece structure that will provide aerial views of Route 66 and the surrounding area

  • Gallery @ 112 in Sayre, Oklahoma ($50,000)

    • 30-foot-tall metal art sculpture featuring the iconic Route 66 shield to be built near the Sayre City Park

  • Western Oklahoma Co-Op in Clinton, Oklahoma ($968,500)

    • Double-sided sign structure and art installation spanning over a section of Historic Route 66

  • Claremore Museum of History ($504,267)

    • Completion of “Legacy Gardens” project with benches, pavilion, and statues dedicated to famous local figures such as Lynn Riggs and Patti Page

  • Elk City Chamber of Commerce ($211,250)

    • Renovation of Parker Drilling Rig #114 including lighting, landscaping, paint, and signage

  • Bristow Historical Society ($774,677)

    • Relocation and relighting of 102-foot-tall historic Chrysler-Plymouth Tower neon sign

  • Church Studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma ($392,894)

    • Creation and installation of roadside attraction sculpture based on Leon Russell’s “Shelter Records” logo
