Weekly concert series slated for McClain-Rogers Park in Clinton
This summer, the City of Clinton, Oklahoma is putting on a weekly music concert series at McClain-Rogers Park, promoting itself as “the nucleus of of arts and culture in Western Oklahoma.”
Concerts will start at 7:00 PM each Friday night from June 2nd to August 4th, music emanating from the historic WPA-era bandshell amphitheater. The goal is to bring the community - Clinton and the surrounding towns - together around arts and entertainment, simultaneously highlighting the area for people traveling Historic Route 66.
Spearheaded by Scissortail Productions, the series is made possible by a multi-year matching Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant. Although over 30 sites from across the country have been selected for this program, this is the first grant awarded within the borders of the Sooner State. The Levitt Foundation describes themselves as, “…a foundation committed to building community through music,” by helping communities revitalize public spaces and celebrating, “the power of music to foster connections among people of all ages and backgrounds.”
Susan Adams-Johnson, the Executive and Co-Artistic Director of Scissortail, is organizing the summer concert series. “We have a phenomenal lineup of artists with genres ranging from Latinx to bluegrass, jazz, reggae, country, and Broadway,” she said. Oklahoma artists that will be headlining shows include Edgar Cruz, Cowboy Jones, The Red Dirt Rangers, Jessica Tate and the Green Mystic Quartet, Jared Deck, and Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road.
The City of Clinton is looking forward to this opportunity to shine a spotlight on their town. In addition to the acclaimed Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, there’s the indoor water park and historic downtown district. Be sure to check out our other Oklahoma Route 66 Association Business Members, too!
