Next Round of Preserve Route 66 Grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation Now Open

The next grant round for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Preserve Route 66 program is open for applications from now until September 30th, 2025.

For the first time, both portions of the grant are open at the same time: the Preserve Route 66 grant is open to non-profits and public agencies, and the Legacy Business grant is open to long-time businesses or businesses in historic buildings along the Route 66 corridor.

Since launching in 2024, the Preserve Route 66 program has given out over one million dollars in grants across the eight Route 66 states for a variety of projects, from roof repair to façade restoration to murals and more. Grants are capped at $10,000 but no match is required for either program. Eligible businesses and organizations don’t have to be directly on Historic Route 66 but the grant request must have a strong connection to the road and its history.

With the Centennial on the horizon, this latest grant round is a timely opportunity to make improvements before the road’s big year begins. You can learn more about the grants and apply at http://www.preserveroute66.org.
